Terri Loewenthal uses a unique optical technique to create luminous, otherworldly photographs that reimagine the genre of landscape photography. Her starting point for this exhibition is the natural beauty of Mount Tamalpais, to which she brings her own personal and idiosyncratic sense of color and form. Loewenthal’s photographs are, as she states, “not a ’made-up’ image, but rather one that reflects the truth of countless multiplicities: the human capacity for intimacy with land; our connection to a reality that is not merely factual but also arises from emotion and imagination; and our longing for wild, transformative experiences within and without the psyche.”
Terri Loewenthal has exhibited at diverse venues, including the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the deYoung Museum, the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, and the Booth Western Art Museum.
