Creative Fashion Upcycling
Friday, September 6 from 12pm to 3pm
Join Emmy award-winning costume designer Giovanna Ottobre-Melton for a 3-hour workshop for clothing and textile upcycling. This class is a nod to the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi and Mottainai. The belief is that something becomes more beautiful as it ages and acquires a new charm. Too big or small, too short or long, moth holes, rips, shredded, or just a boring style, these wardrobe challenges can be exciting and fun to work with. In most cases, restyling can be done by hand, if you can't use a sewing machine. Bring your imperfect clothing and second-hand treasures to class. Your fashion can be transformed into something to love and wear again. Clever alteration techniques, needlework, and dye suggestions for a new life will be explored here.
Both hand and machine sewing projects will be offered. Sewing machine projects require basic knowledge of sewing machine operation.
