Ahoy, Mateys!
Our next Sea Chantey & Songs of the Sea Singalong is scheduled for Saturday, September 14th, from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm at the Bear Valley Visitor Center (NOTE THAT THIS 9/14 SINGALONG WILL BE HELD AT BEAR VALLEY VC instead of the visitor center at Drakes Beach.
However, there are changes afoot, hopefully to your benefit! Starting in October, I will be holding these singalongs MONTHLY ! And moving the time up to go from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm.
Upcoming dates are as follows:
Saturday, September 14, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm (AT THE BEAR VALLEY VISITOR CENTER)
Saturday, October 5, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Saturday, November 9, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Saturday, December 14, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
If the weather is good, we will hold the singalong in the courtyard outside of the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center at Drakes Beach (except for the September 14th sing, which will be held at Bear Valley Visitor Center). Please bring a portable chair, any musical instruments you'd like, and a willingness to laugh a lot! Oh, and warm layers! If the weather is not so pleasant we will hold it inside of the visitor center. Please bring a portable chair regardless, as there's minimal seating available both outside and inside.
It's so much fun when audience members lead shanties for the rest of us to join in on the chorus, and leading a song is encouraged! If you'd like to find a song (or songs) to share, I highly recommend setting one of your online music services to a sea chantey radio station and hear what's out there! Practice lyrics! Teach the chorus to our audience at the singalong!
Our format is informal, mellow, and supportive, so if you've been wanting to push your comfort edge and lead a song, this is a perfect low-pressure opportunity. There will be a white board available for you to write the chorus on, should you choose to lead a song. (Bring printed lyrics, as there won't be internet available to pull lyrics up on your phone). If you'd rather just singalong with the chantey choruses, that's fine too. We always have a great time no matter what.
