Audubon Canyon Ranch invites West Marin locals to join us for a fire ecology presentation and hike at the Martin Griffin Preserve, located on the east shore of the Bolinas Lagoon.

Join us to learn about our ongoing work to steward the preserve using prescribed burning, or "good fire." The group will take a guided hike around a 4-mile loop that goes through two unique prescribed burn project sites.

The moderately strenuous hike will begin with 1-mile uphill climb to our coastal prairie restoration site. You will learn why fire is an important stewardship tool to protect these incredibly diverse and increasingly rare habitats. We will then proceed to some upland redwood forest. There we have an example of a redwood understory burn that is intended to protect our iconic trees from a high-intensity wildfire.

***REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED — space is limited to 30 people max***

Hike Leaders: Brian Peterson, fire ecologist and Catie Clune, director of education.

What to bring for an enjoyable hike: a snack and bag lunch, personal hydration, clothing layers for changing weather, trail shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. Hiking poles are a plus. While there is a restroom in the parking area, no facilities are on the trail.
